Kid finally gets to kick a ball with his Dad: Special moments at Wellington Child & Parent Day

During the July holidays, another lovely Child & Parent Day was held at Wellington Correctional Centre for children and their dads in custody.

These special days give children the chance to spend quality time with their dad—playing together, sharing a meal, and catching up after long periods apart.

It’s so important that days like this can happen, helping children maintain connection with their missing parent and improving their wellbeing.

Staff at the centre were a huge support as always, making this day another success for everyone. They helped prepare morning tea, cooked the barbecue lunch, and supported positive interactions between dads and their children, making sure everyone felt at ease.

Support from SAPOS was also wonderful. They assisted with bringing the children into the visits area to be with their parent in custody, helped with craft activities, and took photos to capture the day.

One dad who sees his little boy most weekends during regular visits finally had the chance to kick a soccer ball with him, running around on the grass and making his little boy very happy.

Another dad met his little boy for the very first time; he is now two.

These moments are what make Child & Parent Days irreplaceable to families.
