Bringing Up Great Kids continues to support mums in custody to reflect on their lives, learn parenting skills, and take those first important steps towards becoming the best parents they can be for their children.

A recent group at Brisbane Women’s Correctional Centre were highly engaged in the program, with their feedback after the program showing just how much they gained from the experience.

In answer to the question on our feedback forms about what had changed the most for them because of the program, the mums wrote:

• “Accepting myself and being able to deal with TRAUMA. Becoming more resilient to build on my integrity.”
• “[The program] helped me to stay positive about being a GOOD parent, thank you.”
• “Very well run course – great understanding and teaching.”
• “Thank you for the great insights and depths of understanding.”
• “I learnt that we’re not all perfect, to be more understanding, and never give up being the best version of yourself for your kids.”

These responses, and the conversations held throughout the course, made our team feel confident that these mums would be applying the skills they had learnt to improving their relationships with their children.

Their better understanding of children’s behaviour would improve the quality of their time together and help encourage these important family connections to flourish.

“I felt helpful being able to present information to the mums that would allow them to better understand their children, and how they can respond to them in ways that support their ongoing connection and the child’s development,” said our team.

We look forward to supporting these mums and they continue to build better relationships with their children and futures for their families.
