Child & Parent Activity Day at Silverwater Women’s Correctional centre

The sun was shining when children ran in to see their mums in custody and spend quality time together at our Silverwater Women’s Child & Parents Day

It was a lovely small group of four happy mums and eight bubbly kids that gathered on the grass beneath the trees to chat, play and enjoy being together.

Child & Parent Days allow children to spend quality, extended time with their parents in custody, in a child-friendly environment.

Our team takes special care to provide a variety of activities for families to enjoy together, including board games, crafts, arts, sports equipment, and usually something a bit special – this time, it was creating personalised heart-shaped magnets.

Our skilled team is also available to support children and their mothers, guiding them through activities as needed.

“It’s heartwarming to witness the bond between mothers and their children, and it’s a privilege to help facilitate that connection,” our team said of the day.

“A mother and daughter used paint to create a lip print on a canvas heart, and the mum was so excited to take this special item from her daughter back with her.”

One of the mums is pregnant and her other two children were excited to feel their baby brother’s kicks.

These days mean a great deal to the families involved.

It’s a rare opportunity to spend quality, extended time together, which helps children who are missing their mum get through a difficult period in their lives and keep their bond strong until she comes home.

Thank you to all the staff from Corrections NSW and support workers who made this day possible.
