It’s school holidays, which for Rise school mentoring children on the Central Coast means action-packed fun days together!
The crew of 12 excited children, aged 5 to 11 years old, headed to the bowling alley for games, snacks, and a treat with a slushy.
This was the first Rise Together Day for many of the children who are new to the program, and they weren’t sure what to expect.
They quickly formed a camaraderie, playing well together, taking turns and cheering each other on.
These days give children with a mum or dad in custody the chance to meet other children who understand what they are experiencing.
They provide a safe, stigma-free space where the children can relax, bond and learn that while they might sometimes feel lonely, they are not the only children going through what they are.

This understanding can improve their well-being and foster a sense of connection to community, and we find that long-lasting friendships form in these groups.
Together Days are also, of course, a chance for the children, who have worked so hard at school all term, to have fun!
Their mentor supported all of the children to give the activity a go and do their best, especially the little ones who needed to focus hard on their hand/eye coordination!
The mood was joyful as we wrapped for the day, and the children ran back to their families to fill them in on what a great time they’d had!
Rise mentoring on the Central Coast is supported by The Benevolent Society.
