Our Kempsey team has been busy celebrating NAIDOC Week with local events!
Our team set up a stall and enjoyed chatting with passersby, friends and neighbours at the local NAIDOC Week event.
NAIDOC Week is the perfect time to celebrate our unique throughcare program, Belonging to Family, which is offered at the mid-North Coast Correctional Centre.
Community members were invited to take part in a survey (and go in the running to win a fresh fruit and veggie basket!) to help our team identify and connect with families affected by the justice system who might benefit from the support Belonging to Family offers.

The celebrations continued throughout the week, with SHINE for Kids partnering with the Kinchela Boys Home Aboriginal Corporation (KBHAC) to put on a Pamper Day for families.
Families and Belonging to Family Elders gathered at the town of South West Rocks for a lovely afternoon of activities.
The focus of the day was building connections and offering support to the children, which included some who are currently disengaged from school.
“The Elders brought so much wisdom and heart to the day – and even had the opportunity to share their voices and stories on One Mob Radio,” said Barb Cohen, our Aboriginal Program Manager.
“This collaboration between KBHAC and SFK is just the beginning. We’re excited for what’s to come as we continue to walk alongside the community, creating safe and supportive spaces together.”

To end a wonderful week of activities, our team visited a local primary school for the Macleay Valley small schools NAIDOC celebrations.
“It was a day filled with culture, connection, and pride, standing alongside local Service Providers,” said Barb Cohen, “This year’s theme The Next Generation – Strength, Vision & Legacy, reminds us why we continue to show up – for our young ones, for our Elders, and for the future.”
