Colour Run brings kids & mums closer together

The mums and kids had an amazing time at our big Colour Run event at Townsville Women’s Correctional Centre (TWCC)!

The staff at TWCC went above and beyond to help our team make it a day to remember.

Sprinklers, cake, bubble wands … everything you need for laughter and a special opportunity for the mums and kids to bond.

“Watching the children have so much fun with their mothers was amazing but sad to watch,” SHINE for Kids National Practice Manager Cilla Simpson said.

“Bringing joyful moments like this to the “silent victims” of crime is heartwarming and heart-wrenching all at the same time.

“We are always grateful to be able to provide these memorable moments for any parent who is unable to be with their children daily.

“Words cannot describe the laughter and happiness that we were lucky to share with the kids and their mothers on this wonderful occasion.

“Also looking around the center and seeing the other women watching the activities and laughing added to an already amazing morning.

SHINE for Kids Townville is so lucky to also have a supportive relationship with the TWCC and we look forward to many more family activities with the center.”

The event was organised with the support of TWCC to help us mark an incredible 40 years operating in Australia.

Jennifer Riddell from TWCC, Queensland Corrective Services said, “For 40 years, SHINE for Kids have supported young people and families impacted by the criminal justice system.

The support to family members who are in our care is invaluable to reconnect and to maintain connections.

We have been proud to work closely with SHINE for Kids in support of continuing these family bonds.

To be witness to the positive outcomes for young people who are building their family bonds is a privilege and one that cannot be understated.

I take this opportunity to show my greatest appreciation for the important and valuable work done by the SHINE for Kids staff and look forward to continuing to support their endeavours for many more years to come.”

Thank you to Department of Child Safety, Youth and Women, QLD and Queensland Corrective Services for supporting our services in Queensland.
