Spooky playgroup in Qld helps kids make fun memories with their mum

Playgroups across Queensland got spooky for Halloween with the kids dressing up and excited to give their mums a fright with face masks, capes, spooky headbands and lots of fun props!

It’s important that the children get to mark these occasions with their parent in custody and make memories together.

Halloween is lots of fun and the mums and their kids didn’t want to miss out!

Mums were excited to see their children dressed up and spent weeks talking about what they might want to be. The mums also got into the spirit with accessories and face painting.

“One precious moment was seeing an older sibling paint his mum and younger sibling’s faces,” said our team.

“We decorated the playgroup area with spider webs and creepy crawlies and had great activities like a spooky sensory tub, and crafts making monsters, witches and bats!”

But it was the lolly hunt that was the favourite activity of the day with the kids having a blast finding surgery treats with their mums!

“It is so wonderful that parents in custody don’t miss these precious events and memories of Halloween 2024, despite being in custody at the time,” said our team.

“One mum told me that her son had never been interested in dress-ups before but was drawn in by the excitement and had his face painted for the first time.”

This mum was so happy to be there to share this ‘first’ with him and told our team it helped her not feel too sad about all the other firsts she’d missed while being in custody.

“It’s great to know that children are still able to make memories with their parents in custody and not feel that they have missed out on those special occasions that only come up once a year,” said our team.
