“This helped me feel closer to them”: Mums in custody create hand made gifts
The mums at Clarence Correctional Centre were thrilled to hear that our Storytime program this month would include a special Christmas craft workshop!
The workshop gave mums the opportunity to create handmade gifts for their children to send home at Christmas so that they would know that mum is thinking of them and misses them even though they can’t be together this year.
The full-day workshop was full of excitement, glitter and creativity as the mums chatted about what they wanted to create for each of their children.
All the mums told us how grateful they were to have this chance to make something from scratch for their children.
One mum said, “spending time thinking of my kids with every colour of paint or texta that I chose especially with them in mind has helped me feel closer to them.”
“Christmas is a tough time to be away from family and SHINE for Kids has put a smile on my face.”
Please donate today and support programs for mums in custody and their kids.
Thank you to Serco for supporting our work at Clarence Correctional Centre.
