Diwali, also known as the ‘festival of light’, celebrates the triumph of light over darkness.
Our mums hadn’t heard of Diwali before but liked the idea of celebrating light over darkness, remembering times that they have overcome darkness in their lives.
It is a colourful celebration, and Rangoli are the colourful designs and patterns made in homes during this time.
Inspired by the Diwa’s or lamps/candles lit during celebrations, we used coloured rice flour and glue to create our own colourful designs.
The children loved painting the glue over their paper and using salt shakers to add the coloured flour.
They made paintings to send home to their siblings and other family members.
Mums made beautiful designs to hang in the bathroom and kitchen at the centre, as well as some to send home to family to show them how much they miss them.
Thank you to the Queensland Government Department of Children, Youth Justice and Multicultural Affairs for funding this program.Â
Please donate today and help us support our bubs with Playgroup.Â
