A big year marks turning point for David, 11
The difference a year can make! 11-year-old David* had a tough start in life, with both parents in custody and little contact with them. He had difficulty regulating his emotions and trusting adults. […]
While everyone loves a chocolate egg, it can be hard for the children of prisoners to know that while their friends are enjoying a family holiday together, they’ll be apart from their dad or mum.
That’s why our special Connection Activity Days get in one step ahead: when the holidays arrive, children will already have something extra special to comfort them, a gift from their dad, and a reminder that they are loved.
It’s not often that dads get to give back to their partners and children, so chances to create a gift from scratch are incredibly special to them and their families.
Crafting kits and rainbows were abundant at the South Coast Correctional Centre Easter Activity Day this year, with scratch art, bracelets and even easter bunny photo frames with a smiling photo of Dad inside on offer.
The four excited dads got straight to work and created the most beautiful items for ten lucky children. They told our team that they loved the experience and wanted these opportunities to create items with care for family to happen all the time!

Our team member said, “It was a great opportunity for the dads to be in a safe and non-judgmental environment and create thoughtful arts and crafts for their children.
“You could really see the love they have for their family and how much they appreciate and miss them.”
Some of the heartwarming messages written by the dads include:
“You are kind, beautiful, amazing, intelligent, loving, caring, thoughtful, inspirational. Our world, our princess and gorgeous daughter. Miss you so much, love Dad.”Â
“I hope you have a good Easter, boys. Hopefully, you’ve been good, and you’ll get heaps of chocolate. I miss you every day, my babies. I love you forever and ever. Dad.”
“Happy Easter, my three beautiful kids. I hope the bunny leaves lots of eggs. Just remember, Dad loves you always and forever.”Â
Thank you to the South Coast Correctional Centre staff for helping make the day a success.Â
Please donate today and support our work with families. Every bit counts.Â
