Connection is key for these dads in custody

Dads at Macquarie Correctional Centre enjoyed creating gifts for their own dads at our special Father’s Day activity session.

Many men applied to participate, and these days are always very popular!

The group was impressed with the selection of crafts on offer and accepted support from our team to make their marvellous creations, which included key rings and cards.

“They were all very happy with their work and would also ask the group for feedback on their choices of design, working together and supporting each other,” said our team member.

“Some cards were made for their children with their dad letting them know he is thinking of them, another made a card for his mother as his dad had passed.”

During the session, some of the dads also recorded Storytime books for their children, carefully selecting from the lovely books on offer.

“When I called one family afterwards to arrange their Storytime package, I was told there were two very excited little girls who couldn’t wait to get something in the mail from their Dad!

“It was great to speak with this carer as I discovered that the youngest girl had not yet met her Dad. We are now organising for them to attend the next Child & Parent Day, which shows how important these opportunities to connect are.”

“I feel very privileged to be able to support the men and families and help bring them closer together,” said our team member, who already has a full list of dads keen to participate in the next session!
