SHINE presents at Parliament of Victoria Inquiry into Parental Incarceration

On March 31, SHINE for Kids had the privilege of representing our children and families at the Parliament of Victoria Inquiry into Parental Incarceration.

We were overjoyed late last year when this inquiry was announced, after many months of advocating for it by Rod Barton MP who we have worked closely with on this matter.

Currently there is no system in place to support children of prisoners and no data collected on their number and situations.

We hope this inquiry leads to change and gives the invisible victims of crime, children of prisoners, a voice.

Read a summary of our recommendations [PDF].

We present alongside outstanding organisations advocating for change including: Families Outside, Deadly Connections Community & Justice Services Limited, Flat Out Inc, Victorian Aboriginal Child Care Agency – VACCA, Grandparents Victoria, Thalia Anthony UTS: University of Technology Sydney Griffith University,

It was an honour to present and share our stories with the committee members: Fiona Patten MP, Tien Kieu MP, Cathrine Burnett-Wake MP, Jane Garrett MP, Tania Maxwell MP, Craig Ondarchie MP and Kaushaliya Vaghela MP.

Donate to support our work.
