Our Education Program assists children to reach their full potential

The SHINE for Kids Education Program assists primary-school aged children who have a parent or relative involved in the criminal justice system. Its supportive, caring and non-judgmental environment assists children to reach their full potential.

Our Education Program Worker and experienced volunteers visit your child’s school once a week. In a visit of 45 minutes the child receives one-to-one assistance with home reading, homework and assignments, incomplete class work and areas of their education identified as requiring improvement. We also liaise with the school to identify and address any other barrier to the child’s education such as behavioural issues, bullying, or any other social concerns.

Our focus is on developing the child’s literacy and numeracy but, along the way, also increasing their self esteem and stimulating their engagement with education and learning.

We determine case plan goals based on the needs of the child and their family and review them regularly.
