COVID-19 and volunteering at SHINE

Due to the current COVID-19 Public Health Emergency, SHINE for Kids has made a decision to stop recruiting new volunteers until further notice while we navigate our way around these unprecedented times.

Wishing you good health and we look forward to you joining our volunteer team in the near future.

Please continue to visit our page for further updates.

Do you want to volunteer with us?

As a not-for-profit organisation operating on a small budget, SHINE for Kids would not be able to deliver our much needed programs without the extraordinary work and commitment of our volunteers. Volunteers play a vital role in the successful delivery of our programs and services to children and their carers.

SHINE for Kids has well over 300 volunteers in NSW, Victoria, ACT and Queensland.

Our volunteers bring an incredible range of personal attributes, life experiences, skills and qualifications to our organisation.

Our Board members are also engaged in a voluntary capacity.

Our volunteers assist us in various programs including Prison Invisits Program, Child and Parent Days, Community MentoringRISE Education Program, Ride By Your SideStand As One and many more.

To assist our charity with administration costs, we ask for a one off non-refundable, tax deductible donation of $25 when you register your interest to volunteer with us.

To be eligible to volunteer with with us you will need complete a comprehensive recruitment process. This can range from between 8 – 12 weeks depending on the program and State where you will be volunteering.

Our Process

Our recruiting and screening procedure helps us to create a safer organisation for children and young people we support. The recruitment process is a chance for us to get to know each other! It’s a thorough selection process.

You will need to fill our expression of interest form online and submit.

Our Coordinator will be in touch to organise payment. Once this is done your application will be reviewed by our respective program/location coordinators, who will contact you to discuss your application further.

You will be interviewed and two reference checks will need to be completed.

Your Working with Children Check will be validated and your application for a criminal history check will need to be completed.

Once all of this is completed you will then be able start to volunteering with us.

All volunteers are interviewed and screened to ensure their suitability, and not all volunteer applications are accepted.
