SHINE for Kids
When a young person leaves the youth detention system, it is often really hard for them to navigate life outside. That is where our Stand As One mentors come in. Our volunteer mentors support the young person to reintegrate into the community, find education and work, attend meetings with their case worker, get their licence, find housing and generally do things that many of us take for granted.Last week one of our mentors took their mentee to a photography exhibition at the State Library. This young person had shown a keen interest in photography while he was in custody. They had a great day visiting one of Sydney’s landmark buildings and experiencing something new. Showing kindness and being a role model will help this young person get his life back on track and help him to not reoffend.#StandAsOne #mentoring #ourvolunteersrock ... See MoreSee Less

5 years ago SHINE delivered our first program in QLD. Now in 2021 we are in all Women’s prisons in QLD helping children stay connected to Mum. We celebrate & acknowledge all children in QLD with a parent in prison & thank the families for their trust over the past 5 years.
