Keeping Us Strong
Keeping Us Strong is an extended version of the Keeping Us Together program but designed for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders parents.
Keeping Us Strong repairs and nurtures the child parent bond and empowers the parent in custody to reflect on their parenting journey and goals post release.
Both programs use the evidenced based parenting program Bringing Up Great Kids, mindfulness and reflection to help parents in custody examine and improve their communication with children so that they may foster more positive interactions which support children’s development and positive identity.
Better communications between mums or dads and their children is shown to strengthen the bond between parent and child. The program includes 12 hours in custody support (6 sessions of 2 hours).
This program includes 45 hours of in-custody support and 12 months post-release support.
Who is it for?
Mums and dads in custody.
