What is workplace giving?

Workplace giving is a very effective way for employees to support the work of a charity by making a donation through their pay each week and putting their taxes to work for a good cause. Many employers match their employee donations and together, they make a powerful contribution to the wellbeing of the community they live in.

SHINE for Kids puts these donations to work for children of prisoners to help break the cycle. If you want to make the world a better place, workplace giving is a good way to do it.

How does it work?

In the SHINE for Kids Workplace Giving Program, donations are deducted from pre-tax pay each pay day, enabling an immediate tax deduction for employees and there is no need for employees to collect and keep receipts to claim at tax time. Employers then forward regular contributions to SHINE for Kids.

For example: for an employee on a 30c tax rate, a $20 donation before tax will only cost the employee $13.70 after the tax deduction. SHINE for Kids, however, will receive the full $20.

This is the equivalent of a couple of cups of coffee and a piece of cake that each of us could probably do without – but over time it can make a big difference in the life of a child.
