Job purpose

  • To provide opportunities for young people detained in Juvenile Justice Centres or on community based orders to participate in a mentoring program which aims to provide positive role modelling and strengths based alternatives to their previous life choices

Selection criteria

  • Tertiary level qualifications in Human Services (Social Work, Welfare or Community Welfare) or equivalent experience
  • Certificate IV in Workplace Training highly desired
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Current Working with Children Check

A minimum of 2 years experience assessing and working with young people:

  • Some experience in recruiting, training and supporting volunteers as an integral part of a service delivery model
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the issues and challenges that young people face
  • An understanding of the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Culturally and Linguistically diverse young people and families
  • An awareness of current Child Protection legislative requirements
  • Demonstrated high level verbal and written communication skills and the ability to resolve issues requiring complex conflict resolution and negotiation
  • An understanding of WHS principles within complex workplace environments
  • Demonstrated computer literacy and experience with the Microsoft Office and in-house databases
  • The capacity to receive a clearance via a criminal record check
  • Capacity to work in an independent role within a larger interstate team structure


  • Current driver’s licence
  • Current Working with Children Check
  • Current First Aid Certificate
